Concomitant with their ictus, four patients had seizures and two had a cardiopulmonary arrest. This delay in referral skews our series toward patients who did relatively well after their initial hemorrhage, and prevents any conclusions regarding the natural history and preoperative mortality rate associated with such lesions.Īll patients presented with classic SAH symptoms: sudden severe headache (usually occipital) followed by an altered level of consciousness (19 cases), including lethargy or coma. One of these was initially operated on unsuccessfully elsewhere and was admitted 62 days after ictus, and the other was seen 1 year after subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). The mean time from ictus to referral was 8.2 days, with a range of several hours to 22 days, excluding two patients. All 21 patients were initially evaluated at other hospitals, and subsequently transferred to our institution. The average age of these patients was 52 years, with a range of 27 to 73 years, and there was a striking female predominance (16 patients). Clipping of the neck is the preferred treatment, but trapping is usually safe, if necessary.īetween 19, 21 cases of saccular PICA-vertebral and distal PICA aneurysms were operated on at the University of Florida (Table 1). More distal (retromedullary) PICA aneurysms are sometimes associated with another vascular anomaly (two cases in this series), and are best handled through a bilateral suboccipital craniectomy. Isolated clipping of the aneurysm neck is essential in this instance, as trapping may compromise vital perforating arteries of the brain stem. Aneurysms at the PICA-vertebral junction usually occur at least 1 cm above the foramen magnum level, arise distal to the PICA origin in the angle between the two vessels, and are best approached by a paramedian incision with the patient in the lateral recumbent position. The angiographic and surgical features of these lesions are determined by the course of the vertebral artery and PICA that is, they occur at branching sites and at curves in the parent vessel, and point in the direction in which flow would have continued if the curve at the aneurysm's origin had not been present. Clinically significant vasospasm and aneurysm multiplicity occurred with approximately equal frequency as at other locations. The lack of specific focal deficits prevented an accurate pre-angiographic determination of aneurysm location in most instances. Most of these aneurysms occurred in females (16 of 21) and presented as classic subarachnoid hemorrhage. Twelve lesions arose from the left PICA, nine were right-sided, and all were small (less than 12.5 mm). Seventeen of these lesions originated from the PICA-vertebral junction, and four arose from distal PICA branching sites. The clinical and anatomical features of 21 surgically treated saccular aneurysms of the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) are analyzed. And I'm happy that He's allowed me to be in Memphis. Now, I'm just happy that God has allowed me to live in this period, to see what is unfolding. And also in the human rights revolution, if something isn't done, and in a hurry, to bring the colored peoples of the world out of their long years of poverty, their long years of hurt and neglect, the whole world is doomed. It is no longer a choice between violence and nonviolence in this world it's nonviolence or nonexistence. But now, no longer can they just talk about it. Men, for years now, have been talking about war and peace. Survival demands that we grapple with them. And wherever they are assembled today, whether they are in Johannesburg, South Africa Nairobi, Kenya Accra, Ghana New York City Atlanta, Georgia Jackson, Mississippi or Memphis, Tennessee - the cry is always the same - "We want to be free."Īnd another reason that I'm happy to live in this period is that we have been forced to a point where we're going to have to grapple with the problems that men have been trying to grapple with through history, but the demand didn't force them to do it. And I see God working in this period of the twentieth century in a away that men, in some strange way, are responding - something is happening in our world. ![]() But I know, somehow, that only when it is dark enough, can you see the stars. Strangely enough, I would turn to the Almighty, and say, "If you allow me to live just a few years in the second half of the twentieth century, I will be happy." Now that's a strange statement to make, because the world is all messed up. And come with an eloquent cry that we have nothing to fear but fear itself.īut I wouldn't stop there. ![]() I would even come up to the early thirties, and see a man grappling with the problems of the bankruptcy of his nation. I would come on up even to 1863, and watch a vacillating president by the name of Abraham Lincoln finally come to the conclusion that he had to sign the Emancipation Proclamation. And I would watch Martin Luther as he tacked his ninety-five theses on the door at the church in Wittenberg.īut I wouldn't stop there. I would even go by the way that the man for whom I'm named had his habitat. ![]() I would even come up to the day of the Renaissance, and get a quick picture of all that the Renaissance did for the cultural and esthetic life of man. And I would see developments around there, through various emperors and leaders. I would go on, even to the great heyday of the Roman Empire. And I would see Plato, Aristotle, Socrates, Euripides and Aristophanes assembled around the Parthenon as they discussed the great and eternal issues of reality.īut I wouldn't stop there. I would move on by Greece, and take my mind to Mount Olympus. And in spite of its magnificence, I wouldn't stop there. Something is happening in Memphis, something is happening in our world.Īs you know, if I were standing at the beginning of time, with the possibility of general and panoramic view of the whole human history up to now, and the Almighty said to me, "Martin Luther King, which age would you like to live in?" - I would take my mental flight by Egypt through, or rather across the Red Sea, through the wilderness on toward the promised land. You reveal that you are determined to go on anyhow. I'm delighted to see each of you here tonight in spite of a storm warning. And Ralph is the best friend that I have in the world. ![]() It's always good to have your closest friend and associate say something good about you. As I listened to Ralph Abernathy in his eloquent and generous introduction and then thought about myself, I wondered who he was talking about. Jackson and Russell have plenty of opportunities to play off each other and the rest of the cast, all of whom add something to the mix except Michael Madsen. When we meet Jackson’s Major Warren he is sitting on the road with three corpses strapped to a saddle, proof of the two bounty hunters’ opposing strategies. In one scene she will be working her angles and then switch to the six-year-old prisoner routine, shouting or spitting. Leigh’s Domergue subtly works her tricks into the other players’ minds and does her best to piss everybody off, especially Ruth and Warren, as much as she can. Russell is unflinching in his portrayal of the bounty hunter Ruth, and the fact that Domergue is a woman doesn’t stop him from pistol whipping and elbowing her in the face. The stuck-in-a-storm scenario works quite well here, because the actors are all gripping in their own ways. The skill of the actors helps the story greatly in not falling flat. Tarantino does what he can with the intimate setting, but they’re still sitting around in a cabin! Still, what you see of the great outdoors is worth the trek (as long as it’s reasonable) for the 70mm experience. Parts of the movie-depicting the motley crew’s carriage travelling through the mountains-are obviously made for the panoramic view, but (as the trailers suggest) a vast portion of the film takes place with a group of people in one room, so there are long stretches where the benefits of the panoramic view are kind of wasted. ![]() There are only three such theatres in Canada. After the intermission things change dramatically, and while the intermission itself seemed to come rather late in the film, it could have just felt that way because of the fast pacing of the second half juxtaposed with the deliberately slow rising of tension in the first.Īs far as 70mm goes, firstly, lucky you if there’s actually one near you. Right up to the twelve-minute intermission the tension builds and builds (oh yes, there is an overture and an intermission). ![]() Jennifer Jason Leigh is on top of her craft as Daisy Domergue So these four end up sheltering with another four people in a cabin to wait out the storm, and Ruth is even less happy with all these strangers eyeing his quarry. Yet by the time the reach the cabin where the bulk of the movie takes place, he is up two passengers as they find Sheriff Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins) also seeking refuge. So of course the “charming” Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) is handcuffed to Ruth, and he isn’t too fond of the idea of picking up one of his competitors. It turns out they are both bounty hunters Ruth is the type to bring his targets in alive because he doesn’t want to deny the hangman his job. Jackson) trying to hitch a ride in John Ruth’s (Kurt Russell) carriage before a brutal winter storm catches up with them. The movie opens with Major Marquis Warren (Samuel L. While some of his works have used this formula and fallen a little flat in places, The Hateful Eight works as a love letter to westerns and uses the Tarantino formula in a very effective way. The Hateful Eight is another great Tarantino movie, filled with protracted conversations and a smattering of blood-soaked carnage with a sprinkle of witty comedy. When one goes into a Tarantino movie, you know what you’re going to get. Quentin Tarantino has the most definite style of any of the directors currently making films. ![]() Browse 33,156 big ben photos and images available, or search for london or. This gently coaxes the sweet potatoes to develop an enhanced sweet flavor. Murasaki sweet potato has been likened to the Russet potato in its various culinary applications. Its starchy and very moist texture makes it a suitable candidate for baking.Īlthough it shines best when baked, it can also be, boiled, roasted, grilled, and even used in salads. Murasaki sweet potato originated in Louisiana, United States. Although often referred to as Japanese sweet potato, strictly speaking, Murasaki is not a Japanese sweet potato. What we have is just the use of a Japanese name and similarities to true Japanese sweet potatoes such as Kotobuki sweet potato out of Japan, for example.įormally identified as Murasaki-29, the sweet potato was developed in 2001 by Louisiana Agricultural Experiment Station as an open-pollinated cultivar. The goal was to release a purple specialty sweet potato cultivar, an alternative to orange flesh varieties and offering resistance to southern root-knot nematode and soil rot sweet potato diseases. This sweet potato cultivar is patented in the United States under patent #USPP19955P2.Īs much as it originated in Louisiana and was developed in Louisiana for Louisiana growing conditions, Murasaki-29 performed much better in California. Inconsistencies in shape, from egg-shaped to round and even splits, were observed under Louisiana growing conditions. However, the cultivar performed so well in California for the commercial market so as to compete with other white flesh sweet potato varieties. Murasaki Sweet Potato vs Purple Sweet Potato Today, Murasaki is one of the most popular purple sweet potatoes available on the open market. Purple sweet potato is an umbrella name for a variety of purple sweet potatoes which include but are not limited to Murasaki sweet potato. Some well-known purple sweet potato names include Okinawan, Charleston, Stokes Purple, and Kotobuki. Kotobuki sweet potato, in particular, is more common in Japan than anywhere else in the world. As can be expected these sweet potato cultivars have different characteristics.įor example, Murasaki has purple skin and white flesh. On the other hand, other purple sweet potatoes such as Stokes Purple have purple skin and purple flesh. Furthermore, different purple sweet potatoes are best suited for use for certain culinary preparations better than others. For instance, Stokes Purple is good for making sweet potato pie, soups, and savory dishes. ![]() On the other hand, Murasaki sweet potato produces scrumptious baked recipes.ĭepending on intended use, Murasaki may not always be the best sweet potato to use compared to other sweet potato choices available on the market. ![]() Moreover, as pertaining to health benefits, Murasaki has only the skin which is purple, whereas other varieties, as already mentioned, have both the skin and flesh which are purple. From this perspective, these other varieties have better health benefits compared to Murasaki sweet potato ( see health benefits section). Murasaki vs Japanese Sweet PotatoĪ comparison between Murasaki and Japanese sweet potatoes will reveal that although the two potato types have some differences, they have many similarities.Īs earlier mentioned, as much as Murasaki is a Japanese name, the sweet potato itself was developed in the United States. ![]() Years ago I was visiting a friend and they wanted to introduce me to a few people I hadn’t met yet, but they thought it would make a better introduction if I had a fart machine in my pocket… that they had the remote for Know someone who loves Mac and Sephora a little too much?
